A special kind of hotels

When in Bali, we discovered the Aman resorts. We went to have lunch or dinner at several of them during the next few years. Amankila, Amanusa, Amandari and Amanjiwo in Java. Aman means peace in Sanskrit. We got great ideas for interior design, furniture and decorative items. Since then, I have dreamed of visiting their other world wide resorts. Take a look at their web site here.

Besides the Aman hotels, we fell in love with Ibah, owned by a Balinese prince and his Australian wife. Ibah is nested between three water streams, which is considered a very sacred location.

The pool at Amankila. It looks eternal from above. They have the best Pina Colada without alcohol.

The essence of these hotels are their devotion to local landscape, culture and material. The location of each is a superb blend of all you want to find in this respect.

The Amandari hotel was our neighbour, and we heard myths of it before we arrived.

The Amanjiwo is close to the great sacred Borodupur, which you can see through the open lobby, shaped like a stupa. Amazing place!

Now, this is Ibah, where we stayed a few times. We copied some of this bathroom when we built our house in Norway 🙂
